Aikido is a non-aggressive Japanese Martial Art which focuses on self defense and spiritual development. Based on ancient training arts of the samurai, Aikido can be translated as "The Way of Harmony of the Spirit."
The depth and focus of Aikido is up to each individual. Students find from Aikido what they are looking for, whether it is applicable self-defense technique, spiritual enlightenment, physical fitness, peace of mind, self-confidence, professional poise or stress relief.
In self-defense applications, balance, proper positioning and flowing, circular motion are used to subdue aggressors. Strikes are avoided rather than blocked. The force and strength of attackers are used against them to subdue and promote safety. Since strength and speed are not required to overcome an attacker, anyone can train in Aikido. Classes are comprised of men and women as well as children and seniors.
We focus on the following values: compassion, courage, faith, friendship, honesty, loyalty, perseverance, patience, responsibility, self-discipline and work.
